Lasting peace grows when people can resolve concerns fairly, participate in decisions and maintain relationships across community boundaries. In Marsabit, disputes over pasture and water, barriers to justice and mistrust can affect safety and livelihoods. Caritas Marsabit accompanies communities and works with relevant institutions to strengthen dialogue, inclusion and locally led conflict prevention.
What we do
Community dialogue
Bring communities together to discuss concerns, rebuild relationships and agree practical steps towards peaceful coexistence.
Local peace structures
Support peace committees, elders, women and young people to participate in prevention, mediation and follow-up.
Access to justice
Support legal awareness, engagement with justice institutions and opportunities for communities to understand and exercise their rights.
Prevention and participation
Strengthen community engagement, early warning and collaboration with relevant institutions to address emerging tensions.
How we work
Our approach values listening, trust and sustained engagement. We work through community structures while encouraging the meaningful participation of people whose voices may be overlooked. Dialogue is linked to practical follow-up, institutional cooperation and the shared interests that bring communities together.
Connecting our work
Peace makes it possible for people to trade, move livestock, use shared water sources and access services. We connect peacebuilding with livelihoods and natural resource management so that cooperation can translate into everyday benefits.
As the humanitarian and development arm of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit, we are guided by Gospel values and a commitment to human dignity, community participation, stewardship and accountability.
