Guiding Principles
As part of the global Catholic community, we
are guided by the principles of love, honesty, stewardship, accountability, and
community engagement. Our mission is rooted in the sacredness and dignity of
every human person, driving us to uphold rights, prioritize the needs of the
poor, and foster solidarity. Specifically, we are guided by the
following principles:
Sacredness and Dignity of the Human Person: At Caritas Marsabit, we
believe that every individual, created in the image of God, possesses inherent
dignity and worth. We honor the sacredness of human life, recognizing that each
person's dignity comes directly from their creation and is not contingent upon
any external factors.
Rights and Responsibilities: Upholding the principles of justice
and human dignity, we affirm that every person has fundamental rights and
corresponding responsibilities. These rights, including access to basic needs
and opportunities, are essential for individuals to live fulfilling lives, and
it is our duty to respect and protect them.
Social Nature of Humanity: Recognizing our interconnectedness, we
understand that true human flourishing occurs within the context of community.
Caritas Marsabit seeks to foster inclusive and supportive communities where
individuals can realize their full potential and contribute to the well-being
of others.
The Common Good: Central to our mission is the promotion of the
common good, where all members of society have the opportunity to thrive. We
work to address systemic injustices and create social conditions that enable
everyone to lead dignified lives and reach their fullest potential.
Subsidiarity: Embracing the principle of subsidiarity, we recognize
that decisions should be made at the most local and appropriate level possible.
Caritas Marsabit empowers local communities to identify and address their own
needs, respecting their autonomy and agency in finding solutions.
Solidarity: Guided by the spirit of solidarity, we acknowledge our
interconnectedness as members of the global human family. In solidarity with
the marginalized and vulnerable, we stand united in our commitment to justice,
compassion, and mutual support.
Option for the Poor: Rooted in our faith and values, we prioritize
the needs of the poor and marginalized in all our actions and decisions. By
advocating for and serving those who are most disadvantaged, we strive to build
a more just and equitable society for all.
Stewardship: As stewards of God's creation, we recognize our
responsibility to care for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Caritas Marsabit
is committed to practicing responsible stewardship of resources, ensuring their
just and equitable distribution, and safeguarding them for future generations.
